Our Projects

Santa Shoebox Shoes

In a heartwarming collaboration with the Santa Shoebox Project, the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora brought joy to 200 underprivileged children from the Barcelona informal settlement by donating brand-new takkies. This initiative not only provided essential footwear but also reminded each child that they are seen, valued, and cared for. With R50,000 allocated to the drive, Rotary is committed to expanding this impact even further.

Fidget Sleeves

What began as an Easter visit to The Cosmos Old Age Village blossomed into a compassionate initiative by the Rotary Anns. After learning about the calming effects of fidget sleeves for dementia patients, volunteers began knitting and crocheting these sensory tools. To date, 115 sleeves have been donated to old age homes across Benoni and Boksburg. The project continues to grow with support from women as far as the Western Cape.

Sponsoring Sensory Gardens

The Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora supported Apricot Tree Centre by funding the creation of a sensory garden for children with physical and developmental disabilities. The garden includes planter boxes accessible via wheelchair ramps, offering children therapeutic interaction with textures and scents. Apricot Tree’s tailored support system ensures each learner works toward unique developmental goals.

The Matthew 25 Project

To create a more comfortable and spacious environment, the Rotary Club of Benoni Aurora donated a fully furnished three-bedroom Wendy house to The Matthew 25 Project. Painted in bright, cheerful colours, the home was made possible with help from HOT 102.7 FM, who contributed flooring and furnishings. Chosen for its mobility, the Wendy house can be relocated if needed.

Rotary Anns Food Collections

Every two months, the Rotary Anns collect food outside Farrarmere Pick n Pay, benefiting over 225 people. Each drive brings in 5–6 trolleys of groceries worth up to R15,000, totaling about R90,000 annually. Volunteers sort and deliver food to local charities including Angel Wings, Daveyton Soup Kitchen, and others. The Anns work entirely at their own expense, dedicating 174 volunteer hours per year.
